After 10 long years of construction, planning, and planting, the High Line has finally opened today! The High Line has a rich history and has been apart of New York City since the 1930’s. It has been transformed into a railroad track to an elevator park. The last train ran on the track in 1980, and for the last 30 years it has been sitting, waiting to be changed. When the High Line is fully complete, it will be 1 and a half miles long running on the West Side of Manhattan, mostly in the Meatpacking District. The organization, Friends of the High Line has been working on and advocating the project for years and they have successfully turned out an amazing result. I’ve been looking forward to the opening for years, and I’m excited that it’s open to the public to enjoy it’s views and beautiful landscaping. It’s open daily from 7am to 10pm, and during it’s first couple of weeks while work is still being finished, it’s suggested to enter on Gansevoort Street and Washington Street. The High Line offers a place to sit and relax, while there are also many events including the First Party on the High Line by the Calvin Klein Collection, various art programs, family programs, tours and festivals. Go check out the High Line and see this wonderful project for yourself!
