Head to Burgers & Cupcakes on 9th avenue and get everything you’re craving. While the burgers are good, the cupcakes are even better. Go for the large sized cupcake, you might have to share it though because these are hefty cupcakes. My favorite is the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, it’s so moist, rich and perfect. You’ll make the trip to the west side just for this cupcake. Other flavors include your traditional buttercream, peanut butter and chocolate ganache, red velvet, berry, mint chocolate chip, and carrot with coconut. Go to Burgers & Cupcakes and see the combination that you have been living without.

Magnolia’s or Buttercup? That’s the question many New Yorkers ask themselves when deciding which has the better cupcake. We have to thank Jennifer Appel for both shops as she is the one behind it all. She started by opening Magnolia with a partner and then moved onto Buttercup Bake Shop on her own in 1999. I’d have to say that the cupcakes are strikingly similar and familiar with their pastel colored, amazing buttercream frosting. With one location on the east side between 51st and 52nd and a second location on the upper west side, Buttercup Bake Shop is where you want to go for dessert. They bake everything from your cupcakes to ice box pie, brownies, pecan pie bars, red velvet cake, sour cream spice cake, hummingbird cake and more! Everything here is old-fashioned and delicious. Cater your next work party with Buttercup cupcakes, get them for a birthday party, or even a wedding!

We all love our cupcakes, and now you can have them where ever you are in Manhattan! The Cupcake Stop is one of the greatest things Manhattan has to offer these days, as New York’s first mobile cupcake shoppe. The location of the truck is always subject to change, so to track them down either go on their twitter or call the Cupcake Stop to find out where they are: 718-702-2825. The regular locations are Tuesday to Sunday, 5th Ave between 13th and 14th Street from 9:30am to 5pm, and 23rd Street between 7th and 8th Ave from 6pm to 10 pm.
All of the cupcakes are baked from scratch daily and the flavors are constantly changing. Pick from the regulars such as Triple Chocolate, Red Velvet, Oreo Crumb and on special days you can get White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl, Strawberry Shortcake, and Mint Chocolate Chip. The cake is super moist and the frosting is perfectly sweet. Choose from a regular sized cupcake, or a mini that is so adorable.
Cupcake Stop will even be a part of your special event if you just call them!

Magnolia Bakery makes the cupcake that is every New Yorker’s favorite, so much so that there is a line coming out of the bakery, rounding the corner till 12am on some nights. Magnolia’s opened in 1996, with their Bleecker street location, and more recently their Rockefeller Center and Columbus Avenue locations. The original chocolate or vanilla cupcakes with chocolate or vanilla icing in pastel colors are on the top of everyone’s list. They are always soft and buttery, sweet with a generous amount of icing. If you’re into other flavors of cupcakes, Magnolia’s also offers red velvet, pumpkin, coconut, German, and more. There is a one dozen limit each person can purchase, so make sure you pick your favorite flavors. Besides cupcakes, the icebox cakes are creamy with a soft wafer crust, making for a delectable treat. Also try the fresh banana pudding that they are famous for made with wafers, bananas, and vanilla pudding. They even deliver! This bakery has been featured in Sex and the City, giving them even more charm.

Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery is probably on the top of my list of favorite places in the world. If you want an alternative to the favorite Magnolia cupcake, come to this cafe located on Rivington Street (here, there are actually cozy seats and tables!). One cupcake, and you’ll instantly become a regular. This tiny cafe is home to the sexy and sassy cupcakes (yes, all the cupcakes have names, these are the red velvet ones with either cream cheese or chocolate almond frosting). There are also spicy pumpkin cupcakes, pistachio, and everyones favorite brightly colored butter cream. The coffee, pies, and regular sized cakes are all equally as delicious as the cupcakes. Even the name of this shop is enticing! So take the F train over to Delancey Street, walk a block over, and enjoy this spot that everyone hasn’t gotten to yet.
