The South Street Seaport ice skating rink is officially open from now till March. This is the newest rink to the city, one that you can enjoy right by the water and a shopping mall. It is open daily from 10am to 10pm, and only cash is accepted here so don’t forget to bring some! It’ll cost you $5 to get in and $7 to rent skates.  If you have any more questions, just give them a call!

Have your own ice skates?  Skate for free at The Pond at Bryant Park!  Otherwise, skate rentals are $12, the lockers are free, but locks are $9 (so bring your own!).  Enjoy skating right on 42nd street, surrounded by trees and skyscrapers.  The rink is open daily until January 25th, leaving you with a little over a week to enjoy it while you can.  The Pond is smaller than other ice skating rinks in the city, but it’s free and conveniently located in midtown Manhattan.  You can also make advanced skating reservations, plus they offer lessons and coaching.  The Pond is one way you can enjoy this cold weather!

Trump Wollman Rink is the rink featured in favorite New York movies and is the place that everyone must experience.  Being able to skate where you’re surrounded by trees, then to see skyscrapers poking out from behind is what keeps you coming back.  Everything is possible at Wollman Rink from ice hockey programs, skating school, parties, or just open free-style public skating.  You can learn figure skating here, ice dancing, synchronized skating and more.  Tonight they are open till 11pm, so you still have some time to go!  There’s a food bar inside where you can get snacks like french fries and cookies.  They have the best hot chocolate with whipped cream that tastes amazing after being on the cold ice.  Lockers are available to hold your belongings, I recommend bringing your own lock instead of renting one of theirs.  There’s a skate rental, so once you got your skates on, you’re good to go!

The South Street Seaport is an area in Manhattan that no one wants to miss. Right by the Brooklyn Bridge, the Seaport is filled with shops, restaurants and museums, you can easily spend a couple hours exploring the area.  Down here you’ll find ships, the bodies museum, even a mall (a rarity in Manhattan).  The Seaport is currently being renovated and there are many new, exciting plans that are on their way.  For all of you ice skaters out there, watch out because another rink is about to open at South Street Seaport.  Yes this new 8,000 square foot rink is going to be opening January 2009.  With general admission at $5, and skate rental $7, there’s no reason not to go.  Enjoy your winter season and see what the South Street Seaport has to offer.  There are always events going on, street performances, singing and dancing.  All around, it’s a good time.

Think you’ve skating in every rink in the city? Think again! The Polar Rink at the American Museum of Natural History has just opened this season, measuring at 12,000 square feet.  This new rink is state-of-the-art, with a recyclable synthetic surface, and is also non-toxic, making it super safe.  It sits on the Author Ross Terrace on the AMNH’s north side.  Tickets are a measly $10 for adults, and $8 for children, and that includes the skate rentals.  You’ll skate around a huge 17 foot tall polar bear, and if you get a little chilly, go inside for some hot chocolate.  The rink is open till March 1, 2009, so don’t miss your chance.
