Come out tonight to Coney Island to watch some fireworks! We’re celebrating the 4th one day early on the Coney Island Boardwalk. The show starts at 9:30pm and it is actually a weekly event. Every summer Friday you can see fireworks right there by the beach, so if you can’t make it out for the special ones tonight, come next week. There will be no buildings in your way blocking the view, and it shouldn’t be too crowded as there is plenty of room on the boardwalk and on the beach. Get there earlier in the day to see what other fun events they’re hosting.

Deno’s Wonder Wheel at Coney Island is something everyone should experience once. It was named a New York City Landmark in 1989, and now is your chance to go. On Sunday for Mother’s Day, any Mom who sings karaoke with her child will receive a free Wonder Wheel t-shirt! Go for a ride on the 150 foot high wheel after you get your free t-shirt. It has a diameter of 140 feet and can hold 144 people at one time. Once you reach the area, you know you’re there by the sight of the huge Wonder Wheel. It was built in 1920 by the Eccentic Ferris Wheel Company and is made of 100% Bethlehem Steel (So it’s super strong). This wheel is no ordinary ferris wheel, the cars on the inside fall back and forth while the wheel turns, and the cars on the outside are stationary, besides rocking side to side. Whatever car you choose to ride in, you’ll find it to be more thrilling of a ride than a normal ferris wheel. If you’re worried about the safety, don’t give it another thought. This 400,000 pound structure is re-painted every year to protect it from weather and natural wearing. All of the cars are taken down to ensure for proper care. Go buy a ticket, get in line and go for a spin!

Nathan’s Famous hot dogs all started in Coney Island, and that’s where you’ll have to go to experience them. The Nathan’s chain that can be found in all 50 states can’t be compared to the experience of the real Nathan’s in Brooklyn. Founded by a polish immigrant, Nathan Handwerker, these dogs have been sold since 1916 and have only exploded since then. There is a constant crowd here at Coney Island, but the busiest day will have to be annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest (the winner ate 59 hot dogs in 10 minutes last year!). When you visit Nathan’s, you have to get their old-fashioned lemonade, a few dogs (topped with your choice of chili, cheese, sauerkraut, red onions, or salsa), and a side of fries. Take a stroll down the boardwalk and enjoy the view while munching on your dog. You can people watch, ride the ferris wheel, then get back on line and get some more Nathan’s!
