One of the best things to do in Williamsburg is head to the East River State Park on a Thursday this summer and enjoy Summer Starz 2009.  It takes place in the most absolutely perfect setting right by the river, facing Manhattan with the Empire State Building in the background.  Your night starts at 6pm with children’s hour, 7pm live music, and a movie at 8pm.  I love outdoor movies in New York and there are some good ones coming up.  They are projected onto a huge screen, big enough for everyone to see from a far distance. Bring a picnic, a blanket and some chairs and your night is ready.  You get can ice cream from the truck and popcorn right by the entrance, play some basketball on the court before the show, or just relax on the grass.  Below is the calendar of events for the upcoming Thursdays:

Columbus Circle located up on the South West corner of Central Park is a sight to see.  With seating in the middle of the circle, fountains, and a monument in the center, it’s a great place to hang out and admire the surroundings.  You can’t miss it with the Trump towers in the background.  While you’re there, go to the Time Warner Center where you’ll find plenty of shops to spend your cash.

On 23rd street between 6th and 7th Avenue you’ll find Madeleine Patisserie, a French bakery that makes everything fresh right there.  When you walk in, you’ll immediately notice the array on macarons and you’ll want to try all of them.  This cute little bakery with brick walls serves up dozens of flavors of macarons, each made by hand.  They are so light and sweet, slightly crispy on the outside while smooth and creamy on the inside, you’ll be glad you walked in here.  My favorites are the Caramel Fleur de Sel, Pistachio, and White Chocolate Coconut, but really you can’t go wrong with any flavor.  More exotic flavors include the Red Wine Black Pepper, Candied Ginger, and Banana Guava Orange.  Madeleine Patisserie also has madeleines, breakfast treats like the favorite almond chocolate croissant, and various berry and fruit tarts.
