Staten Island Ferry, Free!

Saturday November 29th, 9:58 am by Serafina.

Welcome to the Staten Island Ferry, something that everyone will enjoy, even if you’re not commuting with it.  Hop on the ferry located in downtown Manhattan, for free!  Yes, this ferry ride is free.  It goes back and forth from St. George on Staten Island to Whitehall Street in Manhattan.  It services 20 million people a year, as commuters need a way to travel between the islands.  There is even a snack bar on the ship where you can enjoy food to munch on and drinks.  You get to pass by Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty aboard the ship, plus you get a great view of the city and it’s buildings.  They run frequently, so you won’t be waiting for too long.  Hopefully you’ll get on one of the new 3 ferries. So get on this shockingly orange ferry and make your way to Staten Island.  You don’t have to stay when you get there, most of us just run right around the corner to catch the next ferry coming back to the city.

Schiller’s Liquor Bar, Go Get Your Fix

Thursday November 27th, 10:59 pm by Serafina.

Schiller’s is the type of restaurant you go to if you want to hang out with friends, grab some awesome french fries, maybe something more daring if you’re hungry, and just enjoy a drink. In their own words, “The wine list consists of 3 wines, CHEAP, DECENT, and GOOD. CHEAP is the best.” On the weekends, brunch is very popular here on Rivington Street in the LES and you will have to wait to get a seat in this place. Dinner on Friday and Saturday nights is also a favorite for Schiller goers. The entire place is lined with bottles and gives off an old liquor bar feel with the tiny, slightly cracked tiles on the floor. Schiller’s is open for breakfast/brunch, lunch, dinner, and late supper. The hustle and bustle going on in here is worth a trip, it is a busy place for a reason. Plus, it’s fun to say the name, Schiller’s, try that five times fast.

Falai Panetteria, Get Your Baked Eggs

Tuesday November 25th, 5:55 pm by Serafina.

This breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner spot is the perfect place to enjoy any cozy meal in the heart of the LES. Falai Panetteria is the smaller version of Falai, a trendy Italian restaurant, and they are just down the block from each other. For breakfast try the baked eggs with mozzarella. It comes in a small pot, covered in tomato sauce with a basket of foccacia bread (that they bake themselves!) on the side, once you try it you’ll wonder why it has taken you so long to experience baked eggs. All of the desserts are delicious and pleasing to the eye, try the pear and chocolate pastry, a combination that melts together. The apple strudel is also worthy tasting, especially when its warmed up.  Take a stroll and go to Falai Panetteria, it’s comfortable and a great place to go on a romantic date, or just to catch up with some friends.
