The City Bakery Bakes Cookies
With its two floors and fresh food, The City Bakery on 18th Street is where you want to be. They make the best cookies you have ever tasted, I promise you. Try a chocolate chip cookie, and you’ll wonder how they get it so perfect. Cookies are baked fresh every 30 minutes, and each one is perfectly crispy on the outside but also soft and mushy on the inside. They are huge, almost plate-sized, it’s the type of cookie you want to finish by yourself in one sitting, but you know you shouldn’t. The City Bakery offers breakfast pastries, pretzel croissants, salads and more. The hot chocolate is also a must have here at the bakery. There is a list of flavors, but since it’s getting warmer out, try the cold hot chocolate. It’s rich, creamy and super thick, almost solid. After a trip to The City Bakery, you’ll wonder why you ever got dessert anywhere else. Bite Sized Baked By Melissa
Located in SoHo on Spring Street by Broadway, you can’t walk by and not get a couple of these cute little cupcakes. Baked By Melissa will become your new favorite dessert place the second you try these treats. These stuffed cupcakes are designed so you can try more than one flavor and not feel bad about it. No more splitting cupcakes in half or in quarters, instead pop these bite sized cupcakes into your mouth without the guilt. Flavors include Cookie Dough, Red Velvet, Cookies & Cream, S’mores, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Peanut Butter Cup, and Tie-Dye. My favorite is the Cookie Dough made with real dough inside! And you thought cookie dough ice cream was good. The frosting is sweet and the bursting filling is a surprise every time. The more you order, the cheaper they are so stock up! They go 3 for $3, 6 for $5.50, 12 for $10, and 25 for $20. These cupcakes are great for parties, just make sure you order ahead of time if you plan on getting a lot. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Don’t miss Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, it’s on July 4th and it’ll be at their original, flagship store in Coney Island. This is the 94th year that Nathan’s is holding the contest and the contestants just keep eating more! The two champions from years past will compete against each other alongside qualifiers from around the country. Be prepared to watch Joey Chestnut (2 time champion) go against Takeru Kobayashi (6 time champion). Last year they both ate 59 hot dogs in 10 minutes and had to go into overtime (Chestnut won by eating an extra 5 dogs during this time!). If you plan on going to the event, be prepared to see a crowd as 40,000 people showed up last year to watch. You can always catch it on ESPN where it’ll be broadcasted. Maybe you’ll even pick up a hot dog for yourself when you’re down there. Check out the sights and see how the re-vamping of Coney Island is going down. It’s a fun event and you know you want to find out who the winner is. Macy’s Fireworks On The Hudson
Yes it’s true, the Macy’s Fireworks are going to be shown on the Hudson River this year instead of the East River. Don’t miss this fantastic show Macy’s puts on every year for the last 33 years, it’s next week Saturday on July 4th! We are celebrating America’s 233rd Birthday and the 400th anniversary since Henry Hudson made his voyage on his river. The show is scheduled to start at 9pm, so make sure you get a good view before the festivities start. You can see the over 120,000 fireworks from anywhere you are in the city, if you are somewhat near the Hudson River and there aren’t any buildings in your way. There are a few access points for the best views (Get there a few hours early! It get’s very crowded) and they are along 11th Avenue:
I’m looking forward to the smiley face fireworks, and here’s a fun fact: the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show uses 55 times more fireworks than the average American firework show! The streets of Manhattan are always packed during the night of the 4th of July and a bunch of them close down, so it’s fun to walk in the streets. All of the hot dog trucks will be out that night and you can get those glow necklaces everyone loves. Enjoy the show and have a happy 4th of July! iTrans App For Your iPhone
